Discovering Nairobi: More Than a Transit City Our adventure began in Nairobi, a city often overlooked by travellers who see it merely as a gateway to Kenya’s national parks. However, Nairobi is well worth exploring in its own right. The city is home to a thriving arts scene, independent shops, and even its own national park where you might spot black rhinos, lions, giraffes, and zebras against a backdrop of skyscrapers. A highlight was visiting the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, an inspiring conservation project founded in 1977. Here, orphaned elephants and rhinos are raised and rehabilitated for reintroduction to the wild—a must-visit for anyone interested in Kenya’s wildlife and conservation efforts. Sanctuary Tambarare, Ol Pejeta Conservancy: Safari in the Shadow of Mount Kenya Leaving Nairobi, we travelled north by road to the Sanctuary Tambarare camp in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, set against the dramatic backdrop of Mount Kenya.
